July 8, 2011 - Orange Beach, AL (OBA) - What is a hot glass blowout and how does it work?
Hot Glass Blowout is a mini fundraiser for The Hot Shop @ the Orange Beach Arts Center, Alabama's only public access glass blowing studio. During this event resident artist, Sam Cornman, works with other glass artists (Jay Thrash and Andrew Thompson of Bear Creek Glass and intern Katy Avant) to create unique blown glass pieces that will be auctioned off during the performance. If you have never seen live glass blowing, you will be amazed at the process of turning molten glass into an object such as a vase, a fish or a platter.

While this is a free event, hand blown drinking glasses are sold ($20) for those who wish to enjoy beer or wine. If you already have all the hand blown drinking glasses that you need, bring your own glass and your beverage is available for a $10 donation. If you are a member of the Friends of the Arts, the drinking glasses are offered at a reduced rate. Nonalcoholic beverages and food are complimentary.

The next Hot Glass Blowout is Friday July 22 6-8 pm and features delicious food from sponsor Moe’s Barbeque. Hot Glass, hot ‘que, what could be better? To learn more about this event visit the website at www.orangebeachartcenter.com or call the Orange Beach Arts Center at 251.981.2787.
