ORANGE BEACH, Alabama – The second annual Lower Alabama Gumbo Festival has been rescheduled and scaled down to a one-day event to be held 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Oct. 4 at The Wharf in Orange Beach, Ala. The event was originally scheduled to be held over two days on May 10-11. But the threat of dangerous weather that weekend forced organizers to reschedule the cook-off that features the top gumbo chefs from Louisiana and Alabama in fun battle to determine which state makes the best gumbo.

GULF SHORES/ORANGE BEACH, AL –  The Coastal Alabama Business Chamber announced today that Owen Corcoran has been named Special Events & Media Coordinator for the organization. Corcoran, a Gulf Shores resident and Auburn University graduate, replaces Lauren Turner, who resigned last month to pursue a career opportunity in Florida.   He comes to the Chamber from the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Baseball team where he held various duties related to special events, group sales, and group parties.

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — The Baldwin County Commission will vote on a policy next month that says requests to vacate public access to waterways will be denied. But during Tuesday’s commission work session, it was the second line of the policy that Perdido Beach Mayor Patsy Parker and several residents voiced concerns about.

Blue Angels announce 2015 team members

The Blue Angels on Tuesday announced the officers selected for the 2015 lineup of the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron. The squadron selected an executive officer, three F/A-18 demonstration pilots, an events coordination officer, two C-130 demonstration pilots, a flight surgeon, and a supply officer to join the 2015 team.

Man hunt comes to end with confession

The three-day pursuit of a former Milton resident accused of three murders in two counties came to a close with no further violence early Tuesday morning. Multiple law enforcement agencies converged on and arrested Derrick Ray Thompson, 41, in a hunting camp outside of Troy, Ala., around 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Mitchell plead guilty in April to making a video of himself and a minor child engaging in sexually explicit conduct in Orange Beach, Ala., in 2012. He also possessed numerous images and videos of himself with children as young as 12 years of age engaging in sex acts with adults.

GULF SHORES, AL — A male juvenile swimmer went missing on Sunday afternoon in Gulf Shores and darkness suspended an aerial and water surface search. On Monday morning the police department reported “surf conditions have allowed the GSPD Dive Team to resume the search for a missing swimmer. Thoughts and prayers for the family during this difficult time as we continue the search.”

BAY MINETTE, Ala. (WPMI) A $250,000 bond has been set for Mobile County constable, Larry Sheffield, who is accused of murdering a man in Spanish Fort. Police say Sheffield shot 53-year-old Jeffrey McMillan outside of Trader’s on the Causeway Saturday, July 19th. Monday, Sheffield’s attorney argued that it was in self-defense.

The search was suspended due to light and surf conditions around 7 p.m.
