ORANGE BEACH, AL – A few brave souls faced a stiff west wind on Nov. 26, Thanksgiving eve, to enjoy the beautiful sights at Cotton Bayou Beach Access in Orange Beach.
The GSUMC Chancel Choir will present The Many Moods of Christmas, Suite 4, originally conducted by famed choral director Robert Shaw, with full orchestra along with traditional carols as a year-end celebration of the church’s 50th Anniversary. The Choir will also present a group of three anthems by John Rutter, What Sweeter Music, Angel’s Carol, and Christmas Lullaby, and the stirring chorus from Handel’s Messiah, For Unto Us a Child is Born.

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. — The international travel website www.JustShortOfCrazy.com has named the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail as one of the top seven in the United States, ranked Number 2 according to a release on the site. The Orange Beach Trail, which traverses much of Alabama’s Gulf State Park, checked in on the top trails list right behind the world-famous 2,500 mile Pacific Crest Trail.
Landon Cooper and the Miles2Give team have embarked on a 10,000 mile journey across America to raise funds and awareness for Sarcoma cancer research. The Miles2Give team started its run in Times Square on April 29 and their trek brought them to Gulf Shores this week where team members met with Mayor Robert Craft.
GULF SHORES, Alabama — Picture-perfect weather on Wednesday afternoon drew many out-of-towners to Alabama’s most popular beach the day before Thanksgiving. With plenty of sun and temperatures nearing 60 degrees, people took advantage of the moderate weather to enjoy the outdoors.

ELBERTA, Ala. — Plans to establish a public library in Elberta continue. During the Elberta Town Council’s November meeting, Council member Betty Wood announced plans to forma steering committee to research the selection of a board of directors for the library.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is working to locate missing Destin teenager Sommer Spinello, according to a news release from the OCSO. Family members say they last had contact with the 15-year-old by phone while the teen was at school Nov. 19. A bus driver said Spinello got off a bus around 2:15 p.m. that day at McFarlan Avenue and Racetrack Road.

Results of a third-party audit of the oil spill settlement program released Tuesday (Nov. 25) by claims administrator Patrick Juneau show the settlement program has correctly processed 99.5 percent of claims. The audit concluded the program is “well-designed and appropriate” and made no major recommendations for improvement.
A Bay Minette man linked to an armed robbery at Lillian Pharmacy and a theft at Tanger Outlets in Foley last week was arrested in Montgomery County, Mississippi, after a high-speed chase on Monday afternoon. According to U.S. Marshals Service inspector Hugh McClendon with the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, William “Jake” McMillan, 27, committed an armed robbery in Choctaw County and a high-speed chase ensued.
A federal appeals court upheld the 15-year prison sentence for a Michigan man who filed a false claim for losses in BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the National Law Journal reports.
FOLEY, Ala. — Plans for a Foley Fire Station in the GlenLakes subdivisions continue to move forward. Foley Fire Chief Joey Darby announced Tuesday that work on the site began this week.

SUMMERDALE, Ala. — A 19-year-old Silverhill man is in Baldwin County Jail on charges of felony rape and possession of child porn. Devin Dante Doyle was booked into the county detention center Tuesday morning, according to jail records. He is charged with single counts of felony rape (2nd Degree), Possession of Child Pornography and Transmission of Obscene Material to a Child.
BAY MINETTE, Alabama – For Dr. Barry Booth, Tuesday’s breakfast celebration at John F. Rhodes Civic Center was an opportunity to give thanks for those who supported a mission he led in offering World War II veterans opportunities to visit Washington, D.C. Booth, an Eastern Shore dentist, helped organize and lead the Honor Flight South Alabama mission, which provided from 2008-2013, a day-long tour for the veterans to military sites including the World War II memorial, dedicated in 2004.
BAY MINETTE, Alabama – Christmas could be coming early for nine of Baldwin County’s top directors, after the County Commission Tuesday agreed to across-the-board salary increases. The recommendation, which equates to about an 8 percent boost over their December 2013 salaries, will be voted on by the commission during its Dec. 2 meeting.

People who don’t have a home or those who are far away from home will have a place to eat a Thanksgiving meal in Mobile for the fifth year in a row.
