LOXLEY, Ala. — Police Sgt. Charles K. “Kerry” Mitchum is being remembered as “one of our finest” by the Loxley Police Department. Mitchum, a veteran law enforcement officer of over 20 years, 16 with the town of Loxley, was en route to a training venue in Stapleton when he suffered injuries in a single vehicle accident on Monday, Jan. 26 according to a release issued Tuesday by the Loxley Police Department.

He said the new organizational structure is critical to boosting efficiency.

Baton Rouge economist Loren Scott predicted “the bottom would fall out” for the region’s economy when oil started washing ashore in the early days of the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Scott testified on Wednesday those forecasts were some of the “worst I’ve ever given,” failing to anticipate the “robust recovery” driven by billions of dollars BP pumped into the Gulf Coast for cleanup and damage claims.

Baldwin County’s public school system went shopping for blinds at a business owned by a school board member, records show. The district spent $2,831 at board member David Tarwater’s business, Bed and Blinds, and bought blinds to cover a “ceiling to floor glass window” at Delta Elementary School, 10251 White House Fork, Bay Minette.

Orange Beach council poised to renew 1 percent sales, use and rental tax for another decade | AL.com

Faced with the prospect of losing $3 million in annual revenue that helps fund Orange Beach’s emergency reserves, beach renourishment and drainage projects, the council appears ready to renew a one percent sales, use and rental tax. The levy was first approved in 2005 when the city had to pay for a third of a $25 million beach renourishment project to repair damages the Baldwin County coast sustained during Hurricane Ivan the year before.
