ORANGE BEACH, AL – Chief Billy Wilkins said a suspect in a shooting in Gulf Shores fled to Orange Beach where he stopped his vehicle in the parking lot near the Designed By You Jewelry store and the former Lester’s Restaurant location and shot himself there.
Supporters of an independent school system say Orange Beach will spend nearly twice as much per student than the average, Alabama school system. According to the Committee for Orange Beach Educational Excellence, the city will spend about 15-thousand per child, which includes capital and allows lower student to teacher ratios.

According to a report issued by OBPD, “We did have a pedestrian struck on (Ala. Hwy) 182 around the Tidewater Condominiums. It was a 23-year-old female from out of state. She was walking across the road North to South. The driver of SUV didn’t see the pedestrian in the roadway and struck her. She was transported to Sacred Heart and she’s in SICU.
Race teams head to Orange Beach on Thursday and Friday before returning to Pensacola. Testing begins in Pensacola Bay at 12p.m. on Saturday. Boats will be launched at noon on Sunday from race village at the slip between the Port of Pensacola and Plaza DeLuna. The first race start is scheduled for 1p.m. on Sunday. ”Anytime you line up boats with 3,300 horsepower engines on a liquid track changing with every lap there’s bound to be surprises,” says Miss GEICO powerboat driver Marc Granet.

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WPMI) A court date has been set to hear a motion to disqualify Baldwin County District Attorney Hallie Dixon from a case. Attorney Julian Brackin filed a motion saying Dixon used her office to “satisfy her sexual needs through employees of her office.”

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — The Baldwin County school board held a public budget hearing Tuesday at Robertsdale High School to discuss a proposed $313 million budget for fiscal year 2015. The school system’s interim superintendent, Robbie Owen, who was selected on Aug. 11, presented the budget to the board.
It seems baby sea turtles are turning into the best Pensacola Beach ambassadors. On Monday, a nest of loggerheads began hatching at 4 p.m., allowing about 60 visitors and residents to witness them erupting from the sugar white sand and scurrying into the Gulf.

ORANGE BEACH, AL — The free Kenny Chesney concert at the Flora-Bama on Saturday was so successful and went off so flawlessly even organizers were surprised at the result. Co-owner and General Manager Cam Price was still tossing out superlatives days afterward.
Emergency responders from Florida and Alabama were practically overrun with concertgoers suffering from the effects of heat exhaustion. More than 200 people sought some kind of attention from medical staff on site Saturday. Fifty-five of that number required significant medical attention, with another 17 actually being taken by ambulance to area hospitals.
Reports of people falling unconscious in the sun were frequent.
