ORANGE BEACH, Alabama — With Labor Day right around the corner, families are heading to the beach for a little vacation time. However, the rough surf continues which means it’s best to be cautious if you decide to get in the gulf.

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – John “Marc” Robertson is heading back to his home in Daphne Sunday with a big smile and the promise of a $40,000 Kia. Robertson, who is a commercial diver, won the Kia Kickoff field goal competition at the Alabama vs. West Virginia football game in Atlanta, Saturday.
August 31, 2014 – Gulf Shores, AL (GSA) – Red Roots, acclaimed Christian country/gospel/bluegrass singers will be in performance on Saturday, September 13th, at 7:00 pm at the Gulf Shores United Methodist Church sanctuary, 1900 Gulf Shores Parkway. Tickets at $10 per person will be available for sale at the church office Monday thru Friday (9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) and at the door on Sept. 13. All concert proceeds go to support the music ministry of GSUMC.
ORANGE BEACH, AL – On Monday the Friends of the Orange Beach Public Library will host an Author Wine and Cheese event at the Orange Beach Senior Activity Center. This event will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature talks from authors Cindy Bates Muir, Charles R. McInnis and Sylvia Williams Dodgen. It is free and open to the public.

The USS Alabama Living History Crew took to the deck of the USS Alabama Saturday afternoon to recreate a World War II-like aerial attack as onlookers watched onboard the ship.The bi-monthly drill held by the volunteer group brought an audience of all ages, and the group said it is always looking for volunteers, even if they don’t have experience in the military. The kids in the crowd said they had a great time and they thought the flyover “was really cool.”

ORANGE BEACH, AL – Veteran Gulf Coast entertainer Elaine Petty has been visiting Belgium for the past few months and doing shows over there. She’s back stateside for a short visit before returning and on Aug. 27 teamed up with old bandmates Rhonda Hart and Doug Habbena to bring the Smokin’ Elvises back to life.

LOXLEY, Ala. (WPMI) Gulf Coast beaches are expected to be packed with tourists this Labor Day weekend and this is the second big event for the Baldwin Beach Express. The hope was that it would make travel quicker and easier to get to the coast. The only problem is a lot of vacationers don’t even know it’s there.
GULF SHORES, Ala. (WALA) – The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo has two seven week old Bengal tigers that they have recently started allowing the public to play with in what they call “encounters.” The white tiger is Leonardo, and the orange one is Raphael. The Bengal is one of five species of tigers, all of which are critically endangered.

GULF SHORES, Alabama – Looking to add some character to a mixed-use neighborhood tucked just off the state highway, a local dentist’s effort to open a new brewery gained momentum this week with an approval by the Planning Commission.

The second annual Kayak, BBQ and Blues Festival will feature kayak and paddleboard races, a barbeque cook-off, live blues music, fireworks and an all-day flyboarding demonstration.
BALDWIN COUNTY, Alabama – Three of five properties included in The National Auction Group Inc.’s recent three-day Baldwin County event found buyers, including the 123-acre Melvin Plash Lane farm in Gulf Shores. The farm, which was being offered either in its entirety or in three separate tracts, fetched $2 million after bidding closed Aug. 25. The property includes a four-bedroom, three-bath home, lake, barns, swimming pool and fencing.
FAIRHOPE, Ala. — People wanting to attend this year’s Alabama Coastal BirdFest Oct. 2-4 must have been waiting at their computers, ready to sign up when registration opened early in August. “Within the first two hours that registration was open this year, we had more than 50 registrations with people from nine different states,” said BirdFest Chairman John Borom.
SILVERHILL, Ala. – It’s been more than three years since the Little Bohemian Hall in Silverhill was damaged when a tornado ripped through the area and those who have been working over the last several months to restore the more than 90-year-old structure are finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.

Baldwin County Engineer Cal Markert isn’t sure the Labor Day holiday weekend will mean lots of traffic for the Baldwin Beach Express. Markert said the new four-lane highway is showing up on Google maps, but other companies have been slow to put the road on their mapping systems.
GULF SHORES, Alabama – While it’s too early to call the 2014 tourism season another record-breaker, all revenue arrows are pointing that way as Labor Day weekend brings the summer to a close. A new high for sales and lodging tax collections would mark the fourth straight for Alabama’s coast.

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — A 26-year-old Foley woman was booked back into Baldwin County jail Wednesday evening, facing a host of previous charges including felony burglary, property theft and credit card fraud. The latest arrest and booking was on a bond forfeiture, according to Baldwin Sheriff’s Office sources.
People who attended the Kenny Chesney concert noticed something odd in the sky. That includes Kenny Chesney himself, who couldn’t help but smile at the flying robot hovering towards his face.
