GULF SHORES, AL — A water line split on Fort Morgan Road in west Gulf Shores overnight Aug. 31 or sometime Sept. 1 left several homes without water in the area of Little Lagoon. General Manager Cliff Johnson of Gulf Shores Utilities said crews were working to repair the line that is about two and a half miles west of Alabama 59 on the south side of Fort Morgan Road.

Something you may not have taken a good look at is their uniform shirt with the words “Molly’s Patrol.” “The partnership with the Bryant family has been tremendous because with their help, we’re able to get things that we’ve needed without having to go through the traditional means of purchasing it,” Melvin Shepard, Beach Safety supervisor for Orange Beach, said.

Orange Beach, Alabama – Red flags were flying on Alabama beaches on Labor Day but that didn’t stop people from enjoying the last day of their long weekend. As temperatures hovered in the low 90s in Orange Beach, families waded in the water and played in the surf despite the presence of rough surf and a strong current. Kayakers and sail boats floated by as teenagers plunged into the water from the concrete supports of Perdido Pass Bridge.

(WALA) – With many people from out of town already headed north Monday, the locals said it was the perfect opportunity to catch a few choice waves. “Not many waves come through, but about a month and half’s gone by without even a little sneaker, long board wave or anything. It’s been like a lake and now finally there’s waves and everyone’s out here,” Harrison Butler, an Orange Beach surfer, said.

Mostly locals remained at the beaches and it was locals like Donna Orrell from Mobile that were here to check in after the crowds were gone. ”We did this last year, all my sisters. The rates go down plus it’s not as crowded, it’s just nice, kids are in school so it’s a lot more fun for us,” said Orrell, who was checking in with her family Monday.

GULF SHORES, AL – Kori Harrell, Gulf Shores High School student, has been selected to receive the Lions Young Leaders in Service Award, presented by the Gulf Shores Lions Club and Lions Club International. Designed to encourage youth to serve in their community, this award is presented to young people who complete 50 or 100 hours of community service in a 12-month period. Harrell received a Gold Seal Award for 100 hours of service.

Tropical Storm Dolly has formed off Mexico’s coast over the Bay of Campeche. The storm’s maximum sustained winds early Tuesday are near 45 mph (75 kph) with additional strengthening forecast until it makes landfall. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Dolly will approach Mexico’s coast by Tuesday night and move inland by Wednesday morning.

August 31, 2014 – Gulf Shores, AL (GSA) – Red Roots, acclaimed Christian country/gospel/bluegrass singers will be in performance on Saturday, September 13th, at 7:00 pm at the Gulf Shores United Methodist Church sanctuary, 1900 Gulf Shores Parkway. Tickets at $10 per person will be available for sale at the church office Monday thru Friday (9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) and at the door on Sept. 13. All concert proceeds go to support the music ministry of GSUMC.

The USS Alabama Living History Crew took to the deck of the USS Alabama Saturday afternoon to recreate a World War II-like aerial attack as onlookers watched onboard the ship.The bi-monthly drill held by the volunteer group brought an audience of all ages, and the group said it is always looking for volunteers, even if they don’t have experience in the military. The kids in the crowd said they had a great time and they thought the flyover “was really cool.”
