A record 26 boats are expected to compete in the 11th Annual Thunder on the Gulf Powerboat Races on Friday, August 22 in Orange Beach and the Inaugural Thunder Run Super Boat Grand Prix on Sunday, August 24 in downtown Pensacola. “We 26 confirmations, but talk is cheap,’’ said Thunder volunteer coordinator Kim Agney. “We talked to all race teams, but we won’t know just how many we’ll have until the rubber hits the road.’’

Heat at Chesney concert hit many hard

Emergency responders from Florida and Alabama were practically overrun with concertgoers suffering from the effects of heat exhaustion. More than 200 people sought some kind of attention from medical staff on site Saturday. Fifty-five of that number required significant medical attention, with another 17 actually being taken by ambulance to area hospitals.

Reports of people falling unconscious in the sun were frequent.

August 19, 2014 – Orange Beach, AL (OBA) – Annette Mitchell will be sworn in as City of Orange Beach Councilwoman tomorrow, Tuesday, August 19th at 4pm in Council Chambers at City Hall in Orange Beach, Al. Mrs. Mitchell moved to Orange Beach in 2000 after running car dealerships in the midwest and has been actively serving on the City Finance Committee, Planning Commission, the Gulf Coast Health Care Authority and the Orange Beach Advisory Committee.
